Dazzling 10,500 Drone Show Vietnam sets Guinness World Record then has Massive Fail
A standout moment in the celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 – April 30, 2025) was an extraordinary drone light show that lit up the skies over Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, on April 28.
Featuring an impressive fleet of 10,500 drones, the performance dazzled spectators with vibrant, emotionally charged visuals that transformed the night sky and left an indelible impression on both locals and visitors.

More than a large-scale entertainment showcase, the spectacle embodied Vietnam's spirit of innovation, resilience, and bold ambition in the digital era.
Most notably, the performance was officially certified by Guinness World Records as the “ largest drone light show by number of drones flying simultaneously .”

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports, the 10,500 drone show on the evening of April 30 could not take place as planned due to widespread interference. The show was also canceled on May 1.
However, on the evening of April 30, the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City announced the suspension of the performance of 10,500 drones on the Saigon River, the area between Ben Bach Dang Park (District 1) and Saigon Riverside Park (Thu Duc City). This is an activity within the framework of the art and sports program "Colors of Uncle Ho's City" , celebrating the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification.
Accordingly, at 9:20 p.m. on April 30, the organizing unit began to demonstrate the drone in the sky. However, due to widespread interference, there was a possibility of unsafe flight, the unit decided to stop the flight and retrieve the drone to ensure safety.
Notably, according to the announcement from the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City, the drone show scheduled to take place on May 1 will also be canceled.
Previously, as planned, the display of 10,500 drones on April 30 would conclude the series of activities celebrating the 50th anniversary of national reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025).
This is the largest gathering of drones in the country. The event organizers have filed a proposal to set a Guinness World Record for the largest number of drones performing at the same time.

During the rehearsal on April 28, the performance caused controversy when it spent a large amount of time paying sponsors. Specifically, in more than 7 minutes of performance, the organizers spent about 5 minutes creating images related to the VNPAY unit.
