China Uses Drones to De-Ice Power Cables

Chinese de-icing drones just replaced the dangerous work of knocking ice off power lines.

A ground team operates a specialized quadcopter that lands directly on ice-coated cables. Its custom wheels grip the line, then it activates a dual-mode de-icing system, using rotating blades to shake the ice loose.

Previously, this required a crew of 6 people spending nearly 6 hours to install removal devices. Now, two people can complete the job in about 2 hours, with much less of a risk.
